Determinant of Utilization of Family Planning Service Among Childbearing Women Attending Selected Primary Health Centers in Ekpoma

Abstract
ABSTRACT
Globally, family planning (FP) is an essential element of reproductive health care and contributes imnmenselyto the reduction ofthe worldwide burden ofmaternal and child morbidity and mortality. The main objective ofthis study is to assess the determinants of utilization of family planning service among 250 childbearing women attending selected primary health centers in Ekpoma. A purposive sampling technique was adopted for the study. Structured research questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection and data were analyzed using descriptive analysis such as frequency and percentage. The result on the various family planning service available to childbearing women 67.2% revealed oral contraceptive pill was available,58% indicated that Intrauterine contraceptive device was available. Result on the determinant of utilization of family planning service among childbearing women revealed that 70% of the childbearing women's utilization offamilyplanning service was based on adequate knowledge of family planning services. 85.6% of the childbearing women's utilization of family planning service was based the number ofchildren that they have. 80.4% of the childbearing women's utilization of family planning service was based on their age. 85.6% of the childbearing women's utilization offamily planning service was based on their level ofeducation. The study concluded that there were notable determinants of utilization of family planning service among childbearing women in the selected primary health centers in Ekpoma. The researcher recommended that health care providers in the study community are enjoined to make available other forms of family planning service to the childbearing women.
