School Environmental Variables and Mathematics Students’ Academic Achievement in Secondary Schools in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State.

Abstract
This research sought to investigate school environment variables and
mathematics students‟ academic achievement in secondary schools in
Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State. To achieve the
purpose of the study, five research were formulated to guide the study.
The research design adopted for this study was the descriptive research
design. Cluster random sampling technique was adopted to select the
sample for the study, the research made use of 19 public secondary
schools in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State. The
research made use of an instrument titled “Influence of school
environment variable on mathematics students‟ academic achievement
questionnaire” (ISEVMSAAQ) administered on 300 respondents. A total
population of 7792 was used for the study. The data generated were
analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient - PPMCC
(r) statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The analyses revealed that,
influence of learning environment on students‟ academic achievement in
mathematics and anxiety relates to school environment in mathematics
academic achievement. It was then concluded that school environment is
significant in relationship with secondary school student in the learning of
mathematics in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State.
Thus recommendations were raised and some suggestions were also
posted for further studies.
