Socio-Economic Impact of Tourism Support Services in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, Nigeria

ABSTRACT

Its prunaty objective was to assess the socio-economie impact of these services on the residents of Calabar Municipality Government Arca. Questionnate the method used in data collection. The research findings highlight that the presence of tourists in hotels has led to increased income generation m the area. The result from data obtained indicates that the toumisto support services in Calabar Municipality have significantly contributed to the socio-economic development in the study. This was also alfirmed in the tested hypothesis which shows a significant between patronage of Facilities of tourism support services between and the socio-economic impact of tourism support services in the study area. The analysis also underscores that the influx of visitors has spurred the emergemasol additional businesses. The findings confirm a significant variation in the weekly visitor arrivals and it has helped in income generation in the hotels. The finding also indicates that the staff in the industry were faced with challenges which need urgent attention if the tourism support services must function effectively in the study area. In light of these findings, it is recommended that the operators of the industry must ensure that the facilities and services are standard updated to meet international standard. This would help increase patronage and enhance the revenue base of the government and operators of the industry.
