Abstract
Lack of technical know-how in understanding transmission lines possess a significant challenge in electrical and electronic engineering education. This deficiency reduces students’ hands-on-experiences, limiting their ability to effectively design and analyze transmission lines in practical applications. This project addresses this gap by developing a transmission line trainer for university laboratory use. The trainer is designed to provide students with practical experience in analyzing and testing transmission lines, covering aspects such as impedance matching, attenuation and reflection coefficient. Constructed using 100m coaxial cables and electronic components, the trainers simulate real world conditions while operating at safe voltage levels. This ensures that students can perform experiments without risk. The transmission line trainer was tested and successfully demonstrated its ability to replicate key transmission line behaviours including signal attenuation and impedance mismatches. The system is supported by instructional materials that guide students through various practical experiments, enhancing their understanding and preparing them for careers in engineering.
