Knowledge and Attitude of Childbearing Age Women Towards Tuberculosis in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a leading cause of death worldwide, contracting the disease each year. However, Nigeria is one of the 14 countries with a high tuberculosis burden and mothers are expected to have an excellent understanding and a healthy approach to preventing, treating, and curing Tuberculosis. This study aims to determine the literacy level of women of childbearing age in Ezinihitte Mbaise, to determine the extent of Tuberculosis awareness among childbearing women in Ezinihitte Mbaise, and to examine their actions and inactions in reducing Tuberculosis prevalence.
The epidemiologic research method, was used to create a qualitative research design. The raw data for this study was acquired via questionnaires, and the raw data was analyzed using unstructured interviews and descriptive statistical data analysis tools. Respondents with over 51.6% are graduates. The women seem to be very aware of Tuberculosis from the data collected, with over 94.2% of the respondents agreeing to have had publicity on the condition before. Over 92.3% admitted the use of home treatment and self medication.
