Abstract
ABSTRACT
Street lighting plays a vital role in improving road safety and security in modern cities. However, many traditional street light systems waste electricity by staying on even when not needed. This project presents the design and implementation of an IoT-based smart street lighting system that automatically controls street lights based on surrounding light intensity and motion detection.
The system uses a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) to sense ambient light and a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor to detect movement. A microcontroller (Arduino) processes sensor data and controls the lights through a relay module. The system is linked to an IoT platform, allowing remote monitoring and control through a mobile or web interface.
By combining IoT technology with sensor automation, this design reduces energy consumption, enhances public safety, and simplifies maintenance. It demonstrates how modern technology can be applied to improve public infrastructure efficiently and sustainably.
