Abstract
Introduction: Cardiometabolic diseases, including hypertension and diabetes are increasing global public health issue, with a particularly high burden in different countries, including Nigeria. Traditional anthropometric measures like body mass index (BMI) are commonly used to evaluate the risk of these conditions, recent studies highlight alternative indicators like neck- standing height ratio (NHR) as potientially reliable predictors of cardiometabolic risk. The neck area, which reflects upper-body subcutaneous fat, has gained attention for its possible link to metabolic health. Hence, NHR has been proposed as an anthropometric measure for assessing cardiovascular risk. However, research on the relationship between NHR and cardiometabolic indices remains limited in African populations, especially in Nigeria. This research is aimed to study the correlation between NHR and Cardiometabolic Indices in young adult males in Nigeria.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 500 young adult Nigeria males aged 18-45 years. The NHR was calculated as a ratio of neck circumference to height. Cardiometabolic indices, as well as anthropometric indices including blood pressure, fasting blood glucose (mmol/L), body weight (kg), standing height (cm) and body circumferences (cm) were measured with standard protocols. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and correlation analysis by Pearson’s correlation coefficient using SPSS version 26, and p
