Effects of Conflict Management Styles on Employee’s Performance in an Organization (a Survey of Selected Tertiary Institutions in Ado-Ekiti)

Abstract
The study examined the effect of conflict management styles on employee’s performance in an organization. The objectives of this study are to; access how collaboration strategy affects employee’s performance, find how compromising strategy affects employee’s performance and assess how avoidance strategy affects employee’s performance. The study adopted a descriptive survey design method; the population of the study consist of 3800 academic staff from the three (3) selected tertiary institutions in Ado Ekiti. The sample size was determined using stratified random sampling method with 300 samples determine for the questionnaire distribution. Questionnaires were used as method of gathering data a total 300 questionnaires distributed. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistic, the hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square method. The findings showed that conflicts can significantly impact employee performance and organizational success and on work output in the organization, resulting in lower productivity, higher staff turnover, slow decision-making, decreased job satisfaction levels, and damage to the organization's reputation. The study therefore, since conflicts can significantly impact employee performance and organizational success, there is need for effective conflict management strategies. Also, conflict management strategies should be implemented that encourage open communication, clear communication of job roles and expectations, shared vision and mission, effective communication and decision- making, and transparency during conflict resolution can improve employee performance and enhance organizational success. It is therefore recommended that Organizations should establish and implement effective conflict management strategies that encourage open communication, clear communication of job roles and expectations, shared vision and mission, effective communication and decision-making, and transparency during conflict resolution
