Factors Contributing to Teenage Pregnancy Amongst Female Adolescents in Selected Senior Secondary Schools in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State.

Abstract
Teenage pregnancy has remained an endemic public health problem in both developed and developing countries of the world. This study examined the contributory factors to teenage pregnancy among female students in selected senior secondary schools in Ethiope weat economic factors associated with teenage pregnancy, sexual reproductive health education and services to female adolescent and social cultural factors contributing to teenage pregnancy amongst female adolescents. Descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used for the study. A sample of 250 was drawn using multistage sampling technique. Self developed questionnaire was used. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data. Results were presented in tables. Findings revealed that 60% of the students were not living with both parents. 52% lived in poor condition .60% reported that their basic needs were not provided for when in need and 60%0got financial assistance from friends. 58% did not have access to reproductive health services. 56% stated that it is not easy to access reproductive health services in their area, 45.2% stated that the staff were not friendly. 50% had engaged in sexual intercourse due to peer pressure of partner, self desire and parent pressure. It was concluded that low socio-economic status, inadequate reproductive health education and services and influence of social cultural factors were identified as contributory factors to teenage pregnancy among female adolescents.
