The Impact of British Colonial Rule on Udi, 1900 – 1960

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to enquire into the colonial impact on Udi from 1900-1960. The unfolding of the history of Udi and also to provide a frame- work for other reviews. This study also centers on the making of Udi colonial era, in order to ascertain the progressive nature of Udi history, the town's tradition of origin. Evidences of colonial imperialism and subjugation, socio-political and economic impacts of colonial rule in Udi from (1900-1960). There would be an exposure of an average Udi mind. This work also highlights the colonial experience of Udi and their reaction to the British intrusion into Igbo land, the impact of British rule and its work as an agent of change in the people's lives and the developments that occurred due to this forceful impression of culture. In the end, the study maintains that regardless of the changes that have taken place in Udi during the colonial time, the town has developed into a mega socio- economic and political force to be reckoned with in Enugu State. The data will be collected from both primary and secondary sources of data collection, it includes the use of research instrument including interviews and personal observations and the study respondent will be selected using the qualitative method of historical narrative. Some research questions will be asked in order to guide the respondents to explicit firsthand information on this subject matter, going further into the research, the interviews will be validated and administered accordingly. The secondary sources of data will include: textbooks, journals, government documents Internet materials etc.
