Sex Hookup Business as a Coping Strategy Among Female Undergraduate Students in Ekiti State University

Abstract

This study explores the sex hookup business as a coping strategy among female undergraduate students at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 80 respondents through structured questionnaires. The study identified financial hardship, academic stress, and emotional coping as the main factors influencing female students’ engagement in hookups. Findings revealed that the practice is often motivated by economic necessity and peer influence but has serious moral, psychological, and academic implications. The research recommends financial support programs, counselling services, and awareness campaigns to discourage transactional sex and promote students’ well-being.
