Abstract
This study investigates the secondary metabolites in the N-hexane oil extract of Citrus sinensis epicarp and their potential pharmacological applications. Fresh orange fruits were collected in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria, in January 2024. The epicarp was dried, ground, and subjected to Soxhlet extraction using N-hexane as the solvent. Phytochemical analysis was performed using TLC and GC-MS, while statistical analyses were conducted using ANOVA. The results revealed the presence of various bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolic acids, with limonene being the predominant compound. The oil exhibited significant antioxidant and antiparasitic activities, suggesting its potential as a natural therapeutic and cosmetic agent.
