Evaluation of Triiodothyronine (t3) in 100 Level Students of Pamo University of Medical Sciences (pums) During Resumption and Examination.

Abstract
Triiodothyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating the body's metabolism and maintaining homoestasis. Based on the role of T3 in metabolic health and various human activities, there is limited knowledge of the interplay of T3 level among university students in various times of their academic journey. This study was aimed at evaluating T3 levels in first-year students during resumption and examinations at PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS). This study was a cross-sectional design, thirty (30) participants were recruited via simple random sampling technique. Blood samples were collected from participants after the resumption and during their first examination into a plain bottle. The serum samples obtained from the spun blood were stored at 4-8˚C until analysis. The levels of Triiodothyronine were analyzed using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay and data collected were analyzed, with p set at ≤ 0.05. The study found that serum T3 levels were significantly higher (p=0.024) during examination (3.39 ± 3.72 nmol/L) than during resumption (1.81 ± 0.50 nmol/L). During resumption, T3 levels in males were 2.02 ± 0.81 nmol/L while females were 1.72 ± 0.28 nmol/L, and during the examination, T3 levels in males were 2.92 ± 0.98 nmol/L while females were 2.64 ± 0.52 nmol/L. There was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.113) between male and female T3 levels during both periods. Among different age groups, T3 levels during resumption were 1.83 ± 0.52 nmol/L (16-17 years), 1.61 ± 0.44 nmol/L (ages 18-19 years), and 1.62 ± 0.00 nmol/L (20-21 years), with no significant difference (p = 0.743) among the age group. During examination, T3 levels were 3.52 ± 3.98 nmol/L for 16-17 years age group, 2.60 ± 0.63 nmol/L for age group 18-19 years, and 2.27 ± 0.00 nmol/L for age group 20-21 years, with no significant difference (p=0.89) in the mean T3 levels among the age groups. This study has shown that T3 level was higher during examination than during resumption and there is no gender or age discrimination in the level of T3 among students in year 1 students of PUMS.
