Causes, Reasons and Health Consequences of Abortions Among Adolescent Girls in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State Nigeria

ABSTRACT The study was carried out to investigate Causes, Reasons and Health consequences of abortions among adolescent girls in Awka South local government area. Three researche questions guided the study. The study employed survey research design. The population of the study comprised of 4292 senior secondary school two students in Awka South local government area. The sample for the study was 300 respondents selected through simple random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a 15-item questionnaire which was validated by two experts in the faculty of education in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. The reliability of the instrument was determined using test-retest method and was established using Pearson product moment co-efficient test instrument statistics which yielded the reliability coefficient value of 0.76 for the three clusters. This was considered high enough to confirm the instrument as reliable. Mean was used to analyse the data collected. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on causes, reasons and health consequences of abortions among adolescent girls. The results will provide valuable insights for healthcare professionals, policymakers, and researchers in Awka South local area in Anambra State. The implications of the study were highlighted it was recommended that the education sector should implement comprehensive sexual education programs in schools and communities that provide accurate information about pregnancy prevention, and responsible decision-making. Additionally suggestions for further study were made.
