Abstract
AbstractThis study examines the knowledge and attitude of students and teachers towards the teaching and learning of Economics in Ado Ekiti Local Government Area, Ekiti State. The research aims to assess the level of students’ understanding of Economics, the instructional methods employed by teachers, and the extent to which these factors influence students’ academic performance and interest in the subject. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study, and data were collected from selected secondary schools within the study area using structured questionnaires for both students and teachers. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and learning outcomes.Findings revealed that while many students show interest in Economics, inadequate teaching resources, insufficient exposure to practical applications, and teacher-centered instructional methods hinder effective learning. The study also discovered that teachers’ attitudes and teaching competence significantly influence students’ perception and achievement in the subject. Based on these findings, it is recommended that schools and education stakeholders provide adequate instructional materials, organize regular teacher development programs, and encourage the use of interactive teaching strategies to enhance students’ engagement and performance in Economics.
