Adolescents’ Attitude Towards Sex Education in Senior Secondary School in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State – Nigeria

ABSTRACTThe main thrust of this study is to investigate adolescents’ attitude towards sex education in senior secondary school in yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve this purpose, four research question were posed, while four null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The research design used in the study was a descriptive survey research design. Cluster sampling techniques was adopted to group the population into public and private secondary schools; while a simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 120 males and 120 females resulting in a total of 240 respondents selected from the size. A questionnaire titled: adolescents’ attitude towards sex education questionnaire (AATSEQ) was the instrument used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while independent t-test statistics was used to test the four hypotheses at .05 level of significance and 238 degree of freedom. The result of the findings revealed a significant difference in the attitude of male and female adolescents towards sex education; a significant difference in the attitude of adolescents whose parents have positive perception and those whose parents have negative perception towards sex education; no significance difference in the attitude of adolescents in public school and private secondary schools towards sex education; and a significance difference in the attitudes of adolescents with positive and negative perception towards sex education. Based on these findings, conclusions, recommendations and suggestions for further in related areas were made.
