Abstract
This study investigates the causes and consequences of election rigging in Nigeria with a particular focus on its impact on the process of nation building. Examining the case of Nigeria's 2023 election, the study explores the factors that contribute to election rigging, such as weak institutions, poor governance, and socio-economic inequality. The study identifies several consequences of election rigging on underdeveloped nations, including political instability, legitimacy crises, and social divisions. The research seeks to shed light on the intricate relationship between electoral fraud, economic development, and nation building, with implications for policy and practice in underdeveloped countries. This study provides a detailed analysis of the causes and consequences of election rigging on nation building, and contributes to the ongoing debate about democracy and development in underdeveloped nations. Election rigging is a serious problem that undermines nation building in under developing nation. The case of Nigeria's 2023 election illustrates the wide-ranging consequences of electoral fraud, including political instability, economic stagnation, and social tensions. Addressing election rigging requires a deep understanding of the political, economic, and social contexts in which it occurs, and a commitment to building robust democratic institutions, promoting accountability, and fostering inclusive development. This research highlights the urgent need for effective policies and interventions to combat election rigging and advance nation building in underdeveloped nations. In short, election rigging is a destructive force that inhibits nation building in underdeveloped countries. It leads to instability, corruption, and undermines democracy. To promote nation building, electoral reforms and measures to combat election rigging are crucial.
