Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aqueous seed extract of persea americana on some haematological parameters of albino rats. Twenty albino rats were randomly divided into four groups of five rats each. They were treated with aqueous extract of Persea americana (except the control group). Group 1 received normal feed and distilled water only, Group 2, 3 and 4 received 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg and 600mg/kg of the Persea americana extract and normal feed respectively. The administration was done for 21 days. At the end of the administration, the rats were sacrificed by cervical dislocation and blood samples obtained by cardiac puncture and used for the analysis. The statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences software version 21.0. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used to compare means. The result revealed that there was no significant (p>0.05) difference in the mean RBC, I,VBC, Hb and PCV in groups 2, 3 and 4 when compared with the control. The findings suggest that aqueous seed extract of persea americana does not possess any deleterious effect on the haematological indice
