Abstract
This study assessed water sanitation practices and their impact on community health in Offa Community, Offa Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. The aim was to examine the sources of drinking water, sanitation behaviors, and the prevalence of water-related illnesses within the community.A descriptive survey research design was employed, and data were collected from 150 randomly selected residents using a structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that a significant portion of the population relies on untreated water sources such as wells and boreholes, and many households practice inadequate sanitation, including open defecation and poor hand hygiene. These practices were strongly associated with high incidences of waterborne diseases, especially diarrhea and typhoid fever. The study concluded that poor water sanitation practices negatively impact community health and emphasized the urgent need for improved access to safe water, proper sanitation infrastructure, and health education. It recommends multi-stakeholder collaboration to promote hygienic water handling, environmental sanitation, and policy enforcement to reduce the public health burden in Offa Community.
