Abstract
ABSTRACTThe study investigates the lubricant and physicochemical properties of green lubricants produced by the Transesterification of Plukenetia conophora seed oil fatty acid methyl ester(FAME) with Trimethylolpropane (TMP). The free fatty acid (FFA) contents , acid value, iodine value, saponification value and peroxide value were carried out ,while viscosity at 40°C and 100°C were also carried out to determine the viscosity index . Higher viscosity index (197.9) was observed in PKCO-TMP which indicate a potential for better lubrication properties. It also indicates that PKCO-TMP will maintain higher viscosity at higher temperature suggesting better stability. Results shows that PKCO-TMP exhibited favourable physiochemical properties with minimal FFA contents (0.030mg/g), acid value (0.597mg/KOH/g), a low iodine (6.551gI 2/100g), a moderate saponification value (33.347mg/KOH/g) and peroxide value of (5.731mEq/kg). These values indicates exceptional oxidative stability for high quality green lubricant.
