Abstract
This study explores the antimicrobial production potential of soil bacteria isolated fromwoodland areas in Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. The objectives included isolating and identifyingbacterial strains with the potential to produce antimicrobial compounds and assessing theiractivity against pathogenic bacteria. Employing serial dilution, pour plate techniques, and arange of biochemical tests, three bacterial isolates- Streptococcus spp., Shigella spp., andKlebsiella pneumoniae-were identified based on their morphological and biochemical traits.Although these isolates demonstrated ecological adaptability and metabolic diversity, antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonellatyphi was not observed under the experimental conditions. The absence of inhibitory zonessuggests that environmental or cultural factors might influence the production of secondarymetabolites. This study highlights the ecological significance of soil bacteria and their potential
