The Need for Community Radio as a Vital Step Towards Community Development

Abstract
ABSTRACTÂ Community radio plays a vital role in community development by providing a platform for local voices to be heard, promoting cultural diversity, and fostering civic engagement. The study also gives review of the concepts of broadcast media, particularly the radio, and the rural community. The achievements of technology through media gadgets like the radio has helped ease communication and the way of life of people in Bekwarra Local Government. The study tends to ascertain the need for community radio as a vital step towards community development of the Bekwarra community, through the radio, ideas are shared, cultures are evaluated, practices are harnessed and transcultural concern is heightened. On this basis, therefore, none availability of the radio will leave the community in perpetual backwardness and primitive cleavage. Thus, this project purpose is geared towards emphasizing the need for community radio as a vital step towards community development. A case study of Bekwarra community. The project seeks for provision of such amenities (Radio) to enhance developmental growth that is sustainable and better the lives of the good people of Bekwarra as it brings to the grassroots; information assimilation, cultural interchange, educational necessity, constitutional upholding of individual rights, improving agricultural stability etc. Nevertheless, the provision of community radio will enhance community development.
