Abstract
AbstractThis study examined the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on students’ performance in secondary schools in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State. The study assessed the availability and adequacy of ICT facilities, determined the extent of ICT utilization by teachers and students, and investigated the relationship between ICT use and academic performance. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and 300 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean scores, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). The findings revealed that ICT facilities in most secondary schools were inadequate and poorly maintained, with limited access to computers, internet, and projectors. Utilization of ICT by teachers and students was moderate, constrained by poor electricity supply and lack of training. A strong positive correlation (r = 0.672) was found between ICT use and students’ performance, showing that ICT enhances learning outcomes. The study concluded that ICT has significant potential to improve teaching and learning but is limited by infrastructural and human-capacity challenges. It recommended adequate provision of ICT resources, continuous teacher training, curriculum integration of digital literacy, and partnerships to develop ICT in schools.
