Prevalence of Hepatitis C Among Pregnant Women in Makurdi and Aliade

Abstract
Hepatitis is an inflammation of liver which results in damage to hepatocytes with subsequent cell death (necrosis). Prolonged inflammation may be accompanied by fibrosis and progression to cirrhosis. The aim was to determine the prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection among pregnant women in Makurdi and Aliade, Benue State. A total of 250 pregnant women were selected randomly and ethical consent was obtained and were screened for Hepatitis C Virus infection using one step diagnostic test kit.
