Abstract
This study investigates the use of digital technology in English Language teaching and learning in secondary schools in Oye Ekiti. It aims to evaluate the availability of digital facilities, identify challenges faced by students, and understand both students' and teachers' perceptions of digital technology in the educational process. The research employed quantitative method approach, collecting data through surveys administered to students and teachers across several secondary schools in Oye Ekiti.Findings reveal significant gaps in the availability of essential digital tools. 55% of respondents reported a lack of computers and laptops, and 65% indicated insufficient internet access. Additionally, 52.5% noted the absence of interactive whiteboards, and 85% reported the unavailability of projectors. Conversely, 72.5% of respondents have access to learning apps, suggesting some progress in integrating digital learning tools.Challenges identified include technical issues, limited internet access, insufficient digital literacy among teachers, and a lack of tailored resources. Despite these challenges, students generally perceive digital technology as improving their learning experience, with 72.5% acknowledging its positive impact. However, 68.8% of students face distractions and lack motivation when using digital tools. The study recommends enhancing the availability of digital facilities, providing comprehensive training for teachers and students, addressing socio-economic barriers, and implementing interactive and personalized learning tools. By addressing these areas, the integration of digital technology in English Language teaching and learning can be significantly improved, leading to better educational outcomes for students in Oye Ekiti.
