Assessment of School Services on Students Academic Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State

Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study titled assessment of school services on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Sabon gari local government area of Kaduna state, Nigeria. five Specific purposes of study and five research questions were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire was developed for data collection. The population of the study consists of 27 principals and 639 classroom teachers.8 principals were used while 92 teachers were sampled from the total population. The research instrument was face validated by the supervisor and some experts in educational administration and planning and other experts from measurement and evaluation. The instrument was distributed and data obtained were analyzed using simple percentage and frequency was used to analyze the result. The major finding of the study shows that the provision of guidance and counseling enhance Students’ academic performance in schools, schools in the study area has no guidance and counseling unit, it also reveal that the importance of guidance and counseling is that the school counselor explains to you the benefits of good habits like punctuality, neatness and respect to your personal growth Students faced counseling problems and consulted the counselor for assistance, The school counselor discusses the effect of bad habits like (lying, rudeness and bullying) on the students’ learning processes which improve the academic performance of students. The finding also revealed that the provision of school libraries has a positive impact on students’ academic performance in schools in the study area which implies that schools in the study area should make provision for library service so as to enhance students' reading culture and also improve their academic performance in school. Also the findings revealed that the the provision of sport service in school engage students in physical activities and exercise which has an impact in their health and psychomotor abilities and also add to their academic performance positively, the findings also reveal that the school provide a functional security service which promote teaching and learning in a conducive environment also the provision of school community service is a means of promoting social and moral development of students. Recommendations were also made for further improvement of the study.
