Assessment of Availability and Use of First Aid Equipments in Some Selected Secondary Schools in Kaduna Metropolis, Kaduna State, Nigeria

This study investigates the assessment and availability of first aid equipments in some selected secondary schools in Kaduna metro polis, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Four secondary schools were sampled. The population o f the study is three hundred twenty five (325) students and One hundred and sixty four (164) respondents from each school were used for the study as the sample size employing a Descriptive survey method as a research design by using well structure guided questionnaire to collect the needed data from the students. Data were collected through the use of questionnaire as the instrument of the study and analyzed using Descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that there are significant effects in the level of availability and use of first aid equipments in some selected secondary schools. Also, the respondents have shown very positive results that availability and use of first aid equipments in secondary schools have a vital role to play in the safety of school environment through enhancing students and teachers’ wellbeing, saving life, promoting recovery and providing emergency assistance to both students and teachers. The study recommends that Government and school authorities should provide adequate first aid equipments for effective first aid treatment. Government and school authorities should also establish awareness program towards sensitizing teachers and students on the importance of first aid treatment and should employ trained or specialized first aiders in the schools for effective administration of the first aid.
