Analysis and Treatment of Waste Water from Food Processing Industry for Municipal Use

Abstract
The use of composite filters for wastewater treatment is a traditional and affordable approach for the treatment of wastewater from palm oil and cassava processing water. The project involves the use of grant, treated sand and activated carbon which are arranged in layer for the treatment of wastewater effluent for palm oil and cassava processing industries. The experiment was carried out for the treatment period of 24hours (1 day), 48 hours (2 days) and 72 hours (3 days) respectively. The result of this study reveled d that all the physiochemical parameter such as BOD, COD TSS, pH and nitrate considered in the project reduced with increasing treatment period. The pH of palm oil effluent and the BOD, TSS, pH of cassava processing water effluent are in with the recommended standard as specified by Nigeria, food and agriculture organization (FAO) and world health organization (WHO).
