Local Government Administration and Rural Development in Boki Lga

Abstract
The local government is responsible for delivering basic goods and services to its local communities faster, easier, and more efficiently. This was the primary reason for which they were created. However, it appears this tier of government is not meeting up with it functions and responsibilities. This study examines Local government administration and rural development in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria". To achieve the above, three objectives of the study, three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested. Relevant literature related to the variables under study was reviewed. Development School Theory was used to guide the study. The study adopted the survey design in its methodology to generate 210 sample from the population of study. Simple random sampling, and purposive sampling were used in selecting the sample. The instrument used for data analysis was Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis Technique.Based on the result of the analysis, the findings revealed that; there is a positive correlation between local government administration and infrastructural development in Boki LGA, Cross River State; there is a positive correlation between local government administration and agricultural development in Boki LGA, Cross River State and also that. there is a positive correlation between local government administration and socioeconomic development in Boki L.G.A. Cross River State.Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that the leadership of Boki Local governments should prioritize the construction and maintenance of rural roads, schools, and healthcare facilities to improve access and enhance the quality of life for residents and also community participation in infrastructure planning and implementation should be encouraged to ensure that projects align with local needs.
