Abstract
This study focuses on the stratigraphic and structural analysis of the Ughelli X Field in the Niger Delta using seismic inversion techniques and well log data. The research employs post-stack acoustic impedance inversion to quantify reservoir properties such as porosity and Total Organic Content (TOC), key indicators of hydrocarbon potential in unconventional reservoirs. Results reveal impedance-driven variations that correlate with reservoir characteristics, identifying areas with high TOC and low porosity as viable hydrocarbon targets. The field's depositional environment, dominated by non-marine shales with high clay content, aligns with findings that transgressive systems favour hydraulic fracturing and enhanced hydrocarbon recovery. Formation evaluation corroborates these insights, with gamma-ray signatures validating source-rock potential. This work underscores the utility of advanced geophysical techniques in delineating and characterizing unconventional reservoirs, offering critical insights for optimizing exploration and production strategies in the Niger Delta.
