Abstract
ABSTRACTWith a view to converting talinum triangulare to wealth and reducing the cost of purchasing materials such as barite, CMC etc. Used in beneficiating mud to meet specific requirements and conditions encountered while drilling oil and gas well. Talinum Triangulare was used. Water-based mud (WBM) was formulated with Talinum Triangulare to ascertain their density, pH and fluid loss potential. The filtration characteristics of the formulated mud samples were tested using the American Petroleum Institute (API) filter press and in accordance to the API recommended practice for field testing WBMs. From the results obtained, mud density of talinum triangulare additive increases from 8.4 to 8.5 and decreases back to 8.4 with decrease in the volume of water from talinum triangulare. The density of talinum triangulare did not fall within the American Petroleum Institute (API) recommended range for density. The pH of the Talinum Triangulare decreased from 8.9 at 350 mL to 7.6 at 105 ml. (alkaline). The mud cake thickness was measured and it ranged from 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm. The fluid loss volume results depict that at every decrease in the volume of water in the talinum. triangulare, the filtrate volume decreases, which shows that it is a very good fluid loss control agent. Therefore, it is economical to use talinum triangulare as an additive compared to the conventional ones as this will reduce overall drilling cost and environmental pollution.
