Abstract
ABSTRACT This project investigates the attitude of Ekiti state university undergraduate to guidance and counselling in Ekiti state. The objectives are to examine the influence of peer groups on social behaviour of adolescence. To examine the assess students' attitudes towards Guidance and Counselling services; identify factors influencing students'attitudes; impact of counsellor attributes on student engagement and the relationship between attitudes and academic performance in Ekiti State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population comprsed,two hundred students from five (5) faculties were randomly selected out of all faculties in Ekiti state university, Ekiti state.A self-constructed questionnaire tilted “Attitude of Undergraduate to Guidance and Counselling Ques sestionnaire (AUGCO)”was used to colect information for this study. Test retest method was used to ensure the reliability of the instrument.Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the reliability coefficient of 0.81. Data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics and were presented in tables. The result revealed that there is a significant difference between the peer influence and attitude of students to guidance and counselling. In addition, it was revealed that the correlation that exists between peer influence and attitude of students to guidance and counselling. Based on the result, it was recommended that schools should create awareness campaigns to inform students about the benefits of guidance and counseling services. These campaigns could focus on how counseling contributes to aca demic success, personal growth, and overall well-being, and should highlight that seeking help is a positive step, not a sign of weakness, counselors should receive training on cultural norms and sensitivities, especialy regarding perceptions of weakness in seeking help. This will allow counselors to provide support in a way that respects cultural beliefs while also encouraging students to access the services available to them. counselors should focus on building trust with students by demonstrating a genuine understanding of the challenges they face. Organizing informal sessions, where students can interact with counselors in a relaxed environment,might help build comfort and trust, universities should invest in targeted awareness campaigns to inform students about the availability, benefits, and confidentiality of guidance and counselling services. These campaigns can include orientation programs for freshmen,posters,social media outreach, and workshops aimed at destigmatizing counselling,
