Abstract
Heavy metals cause risks to humans, health, plants, animals and the ecosystem. This study was carried out to assess the levels of some selected heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, copper and iron in soil. All the samples were collected in AFIT, Kawo, Mando and Barakallahu. The samples were digested by aqua Regia and were analyzed for the presence of heavy metals with the aid of an Absorption Spectrophotometer (MY17380004) instrument. The parameter carried out shows that all the samples are below the permissible limits set by NAFDAC and WHO. Also, for the heavy metals analysis the result shows that the concentration of heavy metals in soil ranged from 0.02 to 0.02 for cadmium, 0.14 to 0.33 for lead and 0.20 to 0.37 for copper, this indicates that all samples were below the permissible limit set by WHO and NAFDAC. Expect for Iron which ranged from 0.57 to 1.10 and is found to be above the permissible limit set by WHO.
