Availability and Utilization of Instructional Material in Teaching of Biology in Senior Secondary School in Ado Local Government Area

Abstract
The research investigated on availability and the utilization of instructional materials in teaching of Biology in Senior Secondary School in Ado Local Government Area in Ekiti State.The study employed descriptive research design of the survey type. The population of the study consists374 SS2 students offering Biology in seven public senior secondary schools in Ado local government and 10 Biology teachers in the selected secondary schools in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study, the primary data that was utilized for the study were gathered through a self-developed structured questionnaire., the type of structured question that used in the questionnaire is likert type. A four – point likert ranging ‘strongly agree’, ‘agree’, ‘disagree, and ‘strongly disagree. The hypothesized showed that the utilization of instructional materials has positive influence on the students as majority of them strongly agreed that instructional materials has improved their performances in Biology. Based on these findings, it was found out that instructional materials played vital roles on student’s academic performance in senior secondary school two (S.S2) students offering Biology. The followings recommendations were made; Schools’ administrators should supervise their teachers more closely to ensure that the available instructional materials are effectively utilized, the government should organize workshops, seminars and conferences for teachers to enable them update their knowledge on new developments on the utilization of instructional materials.
