Abstract
The abstract of the project is as follows:This study examined the impact of Biology Education on achieving Sustainable National Development. Specifically, it explored the role of biology education in promoting environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, and public health. The study also assessed students' understanding of sustainability concepts and the effectiveness of biology education in fostering responsible environmental and health-related practices.A descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study, with the population comprising 90 Biology teachers, 800 Students, and 58 Policymakers. The sample for this study consisted of selected students from various schools, using a multistage sampling procedure. A self-structured questionnaire titled Biology Education and Sustainable Development Questionnaire (BESDQ) was used to collect relevant data.Findings from the study revealed that integrating environmental sustainability topics into the biology curriculum significantly enhances students' awareness of sustainable development (85% agreed). Additionally, 90% of respondents supported the inclusion of hands-on activities, while 95% believed field trips and ecological site visits improve students' understanding of conservation. The study also found that 98% of respondents agreed that biology education helps students understand the causes of diseases, while 99% acknowledged the role of learning about microorganisms in preventing infectious diseases.Based on these findings, the study concluded that biology education plays a crucial role in fostering environmental responsibility, improving public health awareness, and supporting sustainable development. It was recommended that sustainability-focused topics be integrated into the curriculum, practical experiences be enhanced, and public health education be strengthened within biology education. Further research should explore how school administration and policy implementation influence biology education for sustainability.
