Impact of Laboratory Activities on Students’ Academic Performance in Chemistry Among Post Basic Education Students in Nasarawa Local Government, Kano State

Abstract
The study assessed the Impact of Laboratory Activities on Students’ Academic Performance in Chemistry among Post Basic Education Students in Nasarawa Local Government, Kano State. The objectives of the study are to find out the impact of laboratory activities on student's cognitive dimension of academic performance in chemistry among post basic education students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, impact of laboratory activities on student's affective dimension of academic performance in chemistry among post basic education students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State and impact of laboratory activities on student's psychomotor dimension of academic performance in chemistry among post basic education students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State. Based on these objectives three correspondents research questions were formulated. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The target population of the study consist of 22,697 students in Nasarawa Local Government Kano State. The sample comprise 120 males and 258 females which is total 378 post basic education students in Nasarawa Local Government Kano State. The data collection instrument used in this study is the researcher design questionnaire. Validity and reliability of the research instrument was determined. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. A co-efficient value of 0.68 indicated that the research instrument was relatively reliable. Descriptive statistics in form of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions of the study. The study found out that, laboratory activities significantly improve student's cognitive dimension of academic performance in chemistry among Post Basic Education Students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, laboratory activities significantly improve student's affective dimension of academic performance in chemistry among post basic education students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State and laboratory activities significantly improve student's psychomotor dimension of academic performance in chemistry among Post Basic Education Students of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State. The study recommends among others, qualitative laboratory activities equipment need to be install in all Post Basic Education Schools in the state.
