Abstract
ABSTRACTBanditry has emerged as a significant security challenge in Nigeria, particularly in Faskari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. This study investigates the strategies and tactics employed by bandits to resist and survive security operations, highlighting the factors that enable their resilience. Using a interview methods approach, the research combines qualitative interviews with local leaders, residents, and security personnel alongside secondary data from government reports and academic literature. Findings reveal that bandits leverage the region's dense forests and remote terrains for evasion, employ guerrilla warfare tactics such as ambushes, and exploit communication technologies for coordination. Additionally, economic vulnerabilities and strained relationships between local communities and security forces provide indirect support to bandit activities. Security efforts are further hindered by insufficient technological resources, poor coordination among agencies, and occasional allegations of corruption. This study underscores the need for improved trust between communities and security forces, investment in advanced surveillance technologies, and the empowerment of local vigilante groups to counteract bandit strategies. By addressing these gaps, security operations in Faskari LGA can become more effective and sustainable, contributing to the broader goal of regional stability and peace.
