Abstract
This study investigates the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria. With growing security challenges and increasing demands for effective policing, the integration of ICT tools has become essential in modern law enforcement. The research focuses on four key agencies: the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).A survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 46 officers across these agencies using structured questionnaires. The study examined ICT adoption levels, the perceived effectiveness of tools such as biometric systems, CCTV surveillance, digital recordkeeping, and case tracking. It also identified key challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited training, and weak inter-agency collaboration.Findings revealed that while ICT tools are moderately adopted, their use is more structured and effective in EFCC and NSCDC compared to NPF and NDLEA. The study concludes that ICT significantly improves operational efficiency but that its full potential is hindered by infrastructural and policy limitations. The study recommends increased investment in ICT infrastructure, consistent training programs, and the establishment of a centralized, secure crime database accessible across agencies.
