Abstract
This study investigates the impact of social media on the civic education of students
in Nigerian tertiary institutions, with a specific focus on Adeyemi Federal University of
Education. The research aims to explore how social media influences the civic education
knowledge and participation of students. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, data will
be collected through questionnaire and content analysis of social media platforms. The
findings will provide insights into the ways in which social media shapes students' civic
education, including their awareness of social and political issues, engagement in civic
activities, and the potential implications for their civic responsibilities as future leaders in
Nigeria. The study also seeks to identify the opportunities and challenges posed by social
media in enhancing civic education among students in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Recommendations based on the findings will be provided to support initiatives that
leverage social media for fostering a more informed and engaged student population in civic matters.
