Economic Analysis of Sweet Potato Marketing in Kazaure Local Government Area Jigawa State

Abstract

The study examined Economic analysis of Sweet potato marketing in Kazaure local Government area of Jigawa state. Primary data were used for the study generated randomly among 100 respondents from market in the study area. Descriptive statistics, Gross margin analysis, and marketing efficiency were used to analyzed the data. The findings revealed that 75% of the marketers were within the range of 21_50 years and the mean age was 20 years. The result include majority (98.18%) of the respondents are male. The result revealed that that 53% had religion education. Majority (63.67%) of Sweet potato marketers obtained their investment Capita through their personal savings. The result of profitability analysis of Sweet potato marketing were profitable with gross margin of #8000, and Net Return of #5000 respectively. The percentage marketing efficiency was determined using marketing index 64.67% for sweet potato. The major constraints faced by sweet potato marketers were identified as price fluctuations, low demand, and finance among others. The study recommended that co-operative societies should be encouraged to help in the provision of storage facilities and Government should establish price mechanisms in order to avoid fluctuation of price within the marketing system.
