Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study investigates the determination of flavonoids in watermelon peel (Citrullus lanatus) using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and the evaluation of its antioxidant properties. Watermelon peel, often discarded as waste, contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, which possess significant antioxidant activities. Thin-layer chromatography is employed to separate and identify the flavonoid compounds present in the peel Flavonoids which are known for their health benefits, were extracted and identified through TLC, where distinct bands indicated their presence. The antioxidant activity was assessed by reacting the extract with a 0.1 mM DPPH solution, followed by incubation in the dark for 30 minutes before measuring absorbance at 517 nm. The results demonstrated significant antioxidant potential, suggesting that watermelon peel, often discarded as waste, could serve as a valuable source of natural antioxidants. This study highlights the potential for utilizing watermelon peel in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications
