Abstract
ABSTRACTThe dye component was extracted and applied on cotton cellulosic fiber in order to investigate the dyeing characteristics, dye ability and fastnesses to washing. It was found that the dye uptake by cotton cellulosic fiber increased with increase in the dye concentration. The maximum dye absorption has been observed at the increased the dye volume to fiber, the period of 30 to 45 minutes at a temperature of 35°C. At this optimum condition the dye absorption was 60%. The fastness to washing was absolutely low. The dye extracted was classified as direct dye. Synthetics dyes are used locally or colour pastries. Synthetic fabric dyed used in teaching and learning of textiles are also expensive and often inaccessible to some schools for lack of funds to purchase them, hence the need to plants dyes for use as alternative colourant for textile.
