Abstract
This study assessed the role of television as instrument for educational development in Osun State, using students of Baptist High School (B.H.S) Iree as a case study. The study was necessitated in order to ascertain the extent which television educational programmes boost the intelligence of students in the selected secondary school. Furthermore, the study adopted Uses and Gratification and Entertainment-Education theories as justification, while survey research method was further used by drawing 260 samples from the population of B.H.S students through the Taro Yarmane formula. The study found that majority of the students are highly exposed to television educational programmes, and these programmes have influenced their learning process a little. Furthermore, the students claimed that some of the programmes are rich, but they maintained that watching more educational programmes will depend on the richness of such programme. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that television contents producers should continue to create decent educational programmes capable of promoting the educational values of Nigeria. Keywords: Instrument, Educational Programmes, Students, Information, Television.
