Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study aimed to analyze and treat wastewater from an Ado-Ekiti fish pond sample to assessmineral composition and evaluate the effectiveness of wastewater treatment in enhancing waterquality for reuse. Wastewater samples were collected and subjected to preliminary analysisinvolving filtration and separation, followed by primary and secondary treatments through awater treatment facility setup. Further treatment included disinfection with sodium hypochlorite, sludge digestion to produce biogas, and water quality assessment. Mineral composition analysiswas conducted using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, the result revealed nitrogen (25.30mg/100g), phosphorus (19.50 mg/100g), calcium (15.00 mg/100g), and potassium (12.15mg/100g) as major constituents in the waste residue. A water-culture experiment demonstratedthe wastewater’s impact on plant growth, with enhanced growth observed as solutionconcentration increased. Post-treatment water quality evaluation indicated near-standard levels, with a pH of 8.2 and specific gravity of 0.98. The treated water exhibited improved parametersclose to acceptable standards, affirming the effectiveness of the treatment protocol andunderscoring potential wastewater reuse for sustainable environmental management
