Private Security Measures and Crime Prevention in Ado Metropolis,nigeria

Abstract
The loss of institutional trust in law enforcement agencies has resulted in private security arrangements to combat the incidence of crime perpetration in Ikere Ekiti. This study therefore explores Private Security Measures and Crime Prevention in Ado Metropolis, Nigeria by identifying the private security measures employed by residents and businesses in Ado Metropolis, evaluating the effectiveness of private security measures in preventing various forms of crime within the metropolis and examining the challenges faced by private security measures in the provision of crime prevention services in Ado Metropolis.Anchored on securitisation theory, the research design adopted for this study is explorative descriptive and cross-sectional, Simple random sampling and convenience saw were used to select 100 respondents from residents of the Ado metropolis identified to have procured for their life and properties private security measures to prevent crime. A quantitative method of data collection was used to collect data and retrieved data were analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).Find highlights the potential for private security measures to significantly enhance crime prevention in Ado Metropolis, provided the challenges faced by private security providers such as inadequate access to modern technology, financial constraints, poor training, and limited collaboration with law enforcement and regulatory issues are addressed. To addressthese issues, there is a need for funding, the adoption of advanced security technologies,enhanced public awareness, and stronger partnerships with law enforcement. Most especially there should be clear legal frameworks and protocols to promote better collaboration between private security providers and public law enforcement agencies as regards Joint patrols intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.
