Abstract
This study explores the impact of print media on sports development inNigeria, focusing on The Sun Newspaper. Utilizing a sample size of 14,determined via Taro Yamane’s formula from a population of 15, the researchassesses how The Sun's coverage influences sports awareness, participation, and development. Data were collected through surveys and analyzed toidentify trends and correlations. Findings indicate that The Sun Newspapersignificantly contributes to sports development by providing extensivecoverage, promoting local talents, and raising public awareness about varioussports events and initiatives. The newspaper’s in-depth reporting and featureson sports personalities and events have not only informed but also inspiredincreased participation and investment in sports at grassroots and nationallevels. However, the study concludes that while print media like The Sun playsa crucial role, there is a need for enhanced collaboration between mediahouses and sports organizations to further bolster sports development.Recommendations include increasing the frequency and depth of sportscoverage, fostering partnerships with sports bodies for promotional activities, and leveraging digital platforms alongside print to reach a broader audience, thereby maximizing the developmental impact on sports in Nigeria.
