Phytochemical Constituents and Antioxidant Properties of Leptadenia Hastata Leaves

Abstract
ABSTRACTThe study evaluated the phytochemical and antioxidant contents of the plant Leptadenia hastata (Asclepiadaceae). Phytochemical and antioxidant analysis were determine using standard analytical methods and parameters subjected to statistical analysis. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, saponin and flavonoid. Cardiac glycoside and anthraquinone were not detected in the sample investigated. An L.hastata is often used for hypertension, catarrh, skin diseases, wound healing, psrostate complaints and aphrodisiac. In traditional system of medicine different parts are used including the leaves, latex, roots and even whole plant. This revealed describes the medicinal properties, chemical constituents, and other important aspects of L. hastata.
