Abstract
This study investigates the socio-economic factors influencing healthcare facility utilization among women of reproductive age in Kalgo Local Government Area (LGA), Kebbi State, Nigeria. The research aims to assess how socioeconomic and demographic factors shape healthcare-seeking behaviour. A cross-sectional study was conducted, and data were collected from 300 women using structured questionnaires. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests to examine associations between sociodemographic variables and healthcare facility utilization. The findings indicate that age, education level, income, occupation, and number of children significantly influence the frequency of healthcare visits. Women aged 30-34 had the highest healthcare utilization, with 27.9% visiting healthcare facilities every 2-3 months. Higher education (χ² = 15.23, p = 0.002) and income (χ² = 18.45, p = 0.001) were associated with more frequent visits. Women in formal employment (χ² = 5.67, p = 0.017) and those with fewer children (χ² = 12.34, p = 0.005) also utilized healthcare services more often. Socio-economic factors, particularly education and income, play a crucial role in healthcare utilization among women in Kalgo LGA. Targeted interventions aimed at improving education and economic opportunities, particularly for low-income and less-educated women, are essential for increasing healthcare access and improving maternal health outcomes in the region.
