Assessing the Impact of Teaching Practice on Secondary School Students in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State

Abstract
The study investigated the impact of teaching practice on secondary schools in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised all secondary school students in all the 5 secondary schools in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State. A sample of 100 students was used for the study. A structured questionnaire developed by the researcher titled “Assessment of Teaching Practices Exercise on Secondary Schools Students Questionnaire (TPESSSQ)” was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The result of the study shows that teaching practice has significant impact on Secondary School Students Achievement. It was concluded that teaching practice has significant impact on students’ academic achievement, lesson planning and lesson notes in secondary schools in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that the institution should ensure that all student teachers are properly groomed in all teaching and pedagogy courses before proceeding on teaching practice.
