Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study explored the attitudes of student teachers towards teaching practice and how these attitudes affect their performance. The study aimed to investigate the attitudes of final-year student teachers at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, focusing on the differences in attitudes between male and female students and their influence on teaching practice outcomes. Using a descriptive survey research design, a sample of 277 students was selected from the Faculty of Education and Extension Services. The study found that the majority of student teachers had a positive attitude towards teaching practice, with female students showing a more positive disposition than male students. The study also highlighted challenges such as lack of mentorship, inadequate resources, and the pressure of evaluation. It concluded that positive attitudes significantly influence the performance of student teachers during their teaching practice. Based on these findings, recommendations for improving mentorship, resources, and support systems for student teachers were made.
